Fall is in the air. The mornings are cooler, the leaves are starting to turn beautiful fall colors and the sneezing, coughing aching head symptoms are on the verge of being widespread. LOL. With fall comes a whole slew of "the yuckies" . We start preparing in my house, about now, for the yucky season. Stocking up on a few essentials for our natural and organic symptom cabinet. Everything from natural nasal congestion relief, to honey, to lemons, to teas and soup recipes. I make a few and freeze for those days I just don't have the energy (if I have the yuckies) to cook. I wash and fold my fav jammies and keep them handy, my big fluffy blanket and of course my diffuser and essential oils.
Here are a few things we NEVER run out of in my house!
If you are lucky, like I am, you know someone who makes this amazing necessity at home with organic ingredients, but if you don't, then get it now. It will be sold out everywhere before to much longer. Elderberry syrup is not just good for when you are sick either. It is a highly effective preventative too as it is loaded with antioxidants, Vitamin C and immune supporting minerals. Scientific research is quickly supporting the effects of Elderberry Syrup to strengthen your immune system and help with flu like symptoms.
This is a MUST HAVE this year and every year.
Oscillococcinum by Boiron
I also stock up on these items from Boiron:
COLD CALM TABLETS - Temporarily relieves cold symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion and minor sore throat
THROAT CALM TABLETS - Temporarily relieves minor sore throat and hoarseness
At Lisa32 Skin Care, we offer a wide array of essential oils to diffuse during the "yuckie" season. Keep in mind Essential Oils work best when diffused every day, not just when you are ill or have symptoms. You can find our essential oils here and our blends of essential oils here. Essential oils have been used for centuries for helping ease symptoms of the "yuckies" and when used properly can often times shorten the length of symptoms by a few days! Easing symptoms of congestion, body aches and pains, chest congestion and more.
A few other things I keep in my natural and organic cabinet is RAW HONEY, FRESH LEMONS, GARLIC, PEPPERMINT TEA, GINGER TEA and CINNAMON. All these are great to make you feel better for a little while, while the nasty yucky runs it's course. Keeping fresh citrus fruits like lemons, limes, oranges and mandarins on hand is a must in my house. I squeeze them into a juice, or into my tea, or eat them when stomach discomfort is keeping me from eating soups or other soft foods. A great source of vitamin C and immune boosting health benefits as well!
Get plenty of rest, fluids and soft gentle foods while you are recovering, as we all know. Give your body time to heal from the immunity battle that is raging inside and remember to always go to your doctor if your symptoms get worse. Being patient while we heal is so vital and it takes time to recover. With work, stress, kids, family and job, this is the MOST ignored symptom management I can think of. So REST, stay home and keep those germs from spreading!
I also suggest dead sea salt or Epsom salt baths,, often, as often as you want, the minerals in these bath additives can only help your progression in feeling better and to wellness! You can mix your " Yuckie" bath salts now using essential oils of Lemon, Lime and Orange with Eucalyptus, Rosemary or Frankincense. Just add a few cups of salts to a oil safe container, put in about 5 drops of essential oils of your choosing and shake. Put the lid on and store it in your bathroom for later use. Be sure and keep in mind Essential Oils and usage for children under the age of 6 have strict guidelines so do your research, or just stick to citrus oils to play it safe for kiddos!
I am aware everyone knows what to do when we don't feel good, but wanted to give a reminder to everyone, that not EVERYONE takes a flu shot, and not EVERYONE get's sick, so preventative measures are always a must at our house. You know, like prepping for the yuckie season!
Preventaive measures, clean hands, cover coughs and sneezes and stay home, be well this yucky season!
